Battle of Hastings
14th October 1066 &
15th-16th October 2000

An unusual title for a page that deals with both history and future events.

On 14th October 1066 the last 'English' King of the English, Harold II (Harold Godwinson) was killed on Senlac Hill and the Kingdom of England passed for the last time into foreign hands, in the person of William The Bastard, Duke of Normandy. Some people have said that the English antipathy towards the French dates from this world-shaking event (nothing like carrying a grudge, is there?).

Oh, sorry! Is my prejudice showing here?

Although this event is outside the normal timeframe of events that we re-enact, it really is too good a show to miss. There have only been three previous re-enactments of this battle on the actual site, 1984, 1990 and 1995. 2000 is the next scheduled one and there are plans for up to 1000 re-enactors (including 100 cavalry and 100 archers), to participate this time.

You can find more information about the Battle of Hastings re-enactment and how to register as a participant here.
