We re-enact a band of Anglo-Danish warriors (Lithsmen) in the service of King Æthelread of England around the year 1000AD. Today we would be called mercenaries, but a thousand years ago the hiring of warriors by kings and nobles was quite common. They were used to collect taxes and fines and enforce the King's Peace if required.
Last summer we attended society major events at Portchester, York, Kirby Hall and Old Sarum. We also organised two small shows of our own at Stockley Park and Brentford, both in West London. Our plans for 2000 include repeat visits to several of these shows.
We are part of The Vikings, the largest Dark Age reenactment society in Britain, and probably in Europe too.
